Do you ever want to say “no” to God? It seems that many of the Bible’s most famous characters tried to tell him, “Not me!” One of those was Moses, who thought he was the wrong man to lead the revolt against Pharoah and his Egyptian slave masters. I can understand his reluctance since he had once tried on his own to start an uprising and had failed so spectacularly that he had to flee the country. (See Exodus 2) Why would God want him to reprise such a disaster?
When God said, “Come, I will send you to Pharoah” (Exodus 3:10), Moses was ready with five excuses: I lack confidence (Exodus 3:12), I lack authority (Exodus 3:13), I lack credibility (Exodus 4:1), I lack ability (Exodus 4:10), and I lack desire (Exodus 4:13). All of these were true, but God had an answer for every excuse. Moses was not to act on his own power this time. God would be taking the lead. Given no alternative, Moses headed back to Egypt, and history was changed. What is your excuse?
