Beginnings are messy. This month my wife and I took our first cruise. Three-thousand people descended on the small port of Whittier, Alaska, and stampeded up one of two ramps onto the Sapphire Princess. Once on board, we all had to find our room, our muster station, and food. The scene was disorganized, confusing, and overwhelming, but within twenty-four hours we were acclimated to this new environment. Seven days later, we hated to leave it.
The book of Lamentations was written by a man who was living in chaos. His nation had fallen to Babylon. His journey was very different from mine because Babylonian captivity was not at all like an Alaskan cruise. However, the author of Lamentations and I did have this in common; we were both asking, “Can I handle this? Will I be okay? Is there purpose to this chaos?” The answer that brought him hope is the same answer that gives me hope in every new beginning.
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
His mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in Him.”
Lamentations 3:12-14
Today I will begin a new semester of teaching. What will you begin today?
A good verse and reminder for today. Thanks! I enjoy your posts, Don.
I’m glad you enjoy them. We think of you when we drive through Kansas. Grant lives in OK City and Jordan is in Lincoln, NE.
