Pedaling my bike felt sluggish. I had trouble getting enough power from my legs to make it to the top of the bridge, and my average speed was several miles per hour less than last week. What was wrong with me? I squeezed my back tire and it felt squishy. That was it, the tires needed air. I pumped them up and now I am riding again with greater power.
After Jesus left Earth, his disciples spread throughout the world doing many amazing things by the power of the Holy Spirit. Often compared to the wind, the Holy Spirit was the air in their tires. Just before Jesus returned to heaven, he promised the disciples, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 ESV) Filled with the Spirit, the disciples were able to change the world. Without the Spirt, they would never have made it out of Jerusalem.
Have you been feeling sluggish? Is prayer difficult and Bible study dull? Perhaps you need some air in your tires. Ask God to fill you with a fresh wind of the Holy Spirit. It is a prayer He loves to answer.
