Special. Memorable. Romantic. On the eve of our wedding anniversary, I struggle to plan something worthy of the event. She likes to dress up, but there are no dressy events scheduled this week. A fancy meal? She likes it plain. A trip to Paris? We can’t afford it. What can make tomorrow special?
Surprise! Tomorrow is already special. It was made special 51 years ago when my wife became my wife, and I became her husband. Nothing we do will add value to what was done on that day. To celebrate is to remember and give thanks.
What in your life is worth celebrating? In his second letter to Timothy, Paul reminded him of his ordination, an event worth celebrating. Paul said, “I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:6-7) “Fan into flame the gift of God” is a great reminder and something I want my celebrations to accomplish. God’s gift of love needs some fanning.
What gift of God will you fan into flame?
