For most of my life, Holy Week was one of the busiest times of my year. It was filled with planning services for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter. Writing Easter sermons was always difficult. Jesus was dead and buried, then he rose from the grave. What can anyone say about that except “Wow!!!” So, every year, I tried to think of new ways to say, “Wow!!!”
This year has been the antithesis of all my years as a pastor. My wife has been living with extreme and undiagnosed pain. Because she needs me to be nearby, worship services have been replaced with doctor visits, and the joy of rising with the discouragement of being bedridden. It has been hard to even remember what day it is. Yet, no matter how difficult the circumstances, or how extreme the pain, we find encouragement in this: The Great Physician, the one who knows the source of the pain, is still alive! Wow! Wow! Wow! What else is there to add?
