Have you seen God lately? This summer, my wife and I took an Alaskan cruise and were awed by Him many times. A magician on the cruise named Norberto Jansenson, made the statement, “Invisibility is not the same as nonexistence.” What was true of Norberto’s tricks is even more true of God.
One of the highlights of our trip was seeing Mt. McKinley. Before we went, we were told that only about 30 percent of visitors to Denali actually get to see the mountain because it is usually obscured by clouds. For us the day was cloudless, and our view spectacular. When one of our fellow travelers commented that we were fortunate to be part of the 30 percent club, our guide corrected him. “No,” she said, “You are part of the 1 percent. Very few get to see the mountain like this.”
Later that day, from the patio of our hotel, we watched Mt. McKinley disappear. My wife commented that just because we could not see it, it didn’t mean that it wasn’t there. This is true of Mt. McKinley, and it is also true of God. Sometimes I have seen Him clearly and sometimes I have found Him hard to find. Some people have never seen Him at all. This does not mean that he is not there. I worship the God Who Is There.
