The sun rose this morning. I saw it happen and it was magnificent. A huge, illuminated, orange circle emerged from the waters of Lake Tohopekaliga and floated gracefully into the air. The higher it rose, the smaller and less vivid it became. What a show! I’m told it is performed daily. I know what I saw is not what happened but how I perceived it. I also know that my perceptions influence my attitudes and beliefs.
My friend, Jay, is being buried today. I perceive this as a great tragedy–another win for cancer, our great enemy. I wanted God to heal Jay, and I knew that he could. That is my perception, but I very much doubt Jay shares it. If I could somehow plead with Jay to retrieve his flesh and rejoin his friends and family, he would laugh at me and say, “No, you come here.”
Psalm 116:15 says, “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.” That’s God’s perception and I expect one day I will agree with it. Until then, I will enjoy each sunrise and accept it as a sign of his love.
You are the light of the world.
